How much is enough money? More money does not mean happiness.

Updated on September 19, 2013

Money speaks!

When I was young I thought that money was the most important thing in life; now that I am old I know that it is.’ –Oscar Wilde

Will you say 'no' to money? I definitely wouldn’t. I have lots of things to buy and I need lots of money for that. Am I a solitary case who wants and craves for money? No, almost everyone in this world wants to be wealthy and affluent. Why is it so? It is because money gives you power and status in the modern society.

Do you know what the universally accepted commodity in this world is? It is money. Why has money become such a sought after commodity? You are human and as with human nature you want everything the world has to offer. You want to prove to everyone that you are worthy of notice. The world also gives ‘thumbs up’ to you when you are rich and wealthy.

Success is something you crave for and surprisingly your success is measured not by what you have achieved, but by what you have earned. I know that I have good writing talent and I do write regularly for hub pages. But I would not be called successful as I am not making great money in it. If I was making lots of money, I would be singled out as one of the successful writers in hub pages. That is how the world goes. You are always assessed by the money you earn.

Why do you need money?

  • You must survive in this world.
  • You have to maintain a good standard of living.
  • You must have financial security.
  • You want to buy things you crave for.
  • Money keeps your self esteem intact.

How much money is enough money?

‘How can I have enough money? I need lots and lots of it to have all my wishes fulfilled. I seem to have some new cravings cropping up daily and I want money to pour in’. You are insatiable as far as money is concerned.

It is very true that you have your own personal desires and you need money to fulfill it. There is nothing wrong in it. What makes your craving for money go out of control is when you do not have enough of it. I have heard of politicians hoarding their money in Swiss banks. I always smile to myself when I read about it. What is the use of money when you cannot spend it? What makes people so greedy about money? The world as a whole has turned mercenary and you are respected for what you are worth.

But can money give you happiness? Sadly the answer is ‘no’. Money can make you wealthy and prosperous, but it cannot make you happy. If you feel that you need money to feel cheerful, then only the rich can be happy. It is not the truth as there are many suicides among the wealthy and the famous.

You should have money, but you should not chase money as it your life depended on it. Are you bewildered? The answer to this question is simple. You should never forgo money as you will feel lost and forlorn if you do not have it. Your self respect will be shattered if you have to depend on others for your survival. You should work hard to earn good money and you should also make your future financially secure. Nothing feels bad than an old age without money.

Earning money is a step by step process which starts when you are in your college. Your education decides how you are going to flourish in your life. So you should concentrate on your studies and come out with flying colors. Your job decides your lifestyle. So you should be sincere and hardworking to go up in the ladder of success. Your relentless hard work will always pay and you will soon find yourself becoming an authority in your job.

Here is the trick to be wealthy. Your first spending when you get the salary should always be your savings. You should save at least twenty percent of your income in safe methods and another ten percent in funds which are very lucrative but rather risky. Unless you take a gamble you will not earn enough money.

You should spend judiciously and within your means. You should not get into debts as it can destroy your financial security and throw you into self inflicted deficit of money. You should gradually go up in your standard of living and your life style should improve step by step. You should have a house of your own, solid bank balance, profitable bonds, gold, and an extra property which will come handy in procuring more money.

When you plant the seed of money when you are young, it branches out and when you nearing your middle age, your money start earning by itself. This is the trick to be rich. When you are slow and steady, you have time for family also. When you think that your family is secondary and that you have to gallop after money, you will have piles of money, but no good relationship.

‘Too many people spend money they earned… to buy thing they don’t want…to impress people that they don’t like.’ –Will Rogers.

You earn for the betterment of your family and so you should know the trick of balancing between your career and your family life. When you can have the best of both worlds, you will have enough money to make you rich monetarily and enough love to make you happy.
